When a carrier has admitted for a certain amount of permanent partial, permanent total disability or dependent (death) benefits, a claimant may request a lump sum distribution of benefits.  A claimant can ask for up to $10,000 in a lump sum payment for permanent partial disability benefits by simply writing the carrier.  For permanent disability benefits beyond $10,000, or for lump sums for permanent total or dependent benefits, the claimant must ask the Division of Workers” Compensation to approve the lump sum request, and they must agree to accept the carrier’s admitted amount.  The total lump sum payment cannot exceed $84,339.86 for an injured worker, or sole dependent, with a date of injury after January 1, 2015.  (Section 8-42-107(8)(d),C.R.S.; Rule 5-10, Division of Workers’ Compensation Rules of Procedure.)
